The Annual Barbecue of the Irish Czech and Slovak Society will be held at the Slovak Embassy, 20 Clyde Road on 14th July 2001 at 3 PM.
The day dawned bright and beautiful for the Irish Czech and Slovak barbecue. Wisely, tents had been erected to shield the guests from the harmful rays of the sun. But these also served their purpose as rain shelters, when the weather reminded us that it was indeed an Irish summer, that we were enjoying. However the shower didn't spoil the enjoyment for the happy and replete guests who not only indulged in the traditional dishes of potato salad. ...... but the crowning glory of the day was the clarion call to partake of the now legendary highlight of the day .... yes, that's right the suckling pig, which had been roasting for some time under the watchful eye of Society president Bill Prasifka.
The wine flowed, the plates were replenished and unbelievably the rain held off after it's initial visitation. The increasing popularity of the event dictated that it be moved to the garden of the Slovak Embassy after many years in the home of the Society's president (Thank you, Family Prasifka!!!) The warm welcome of the Slovak Charges D'Affaires Mr. Marcel Pesko and the kind words of the Czech Ambassador Mr. Petr Kolar set the scene for a festive day. It was lovely to see not only the "usual suspects" who loyally attend the society's events but also a few new faces who the Society hopes will support future events - (See Alfie Mulligan's - every Second Friday of the Month!!!)
The Irish Czech Society Barbecue has become a mammoth event in the calendar of the Society and for this, huge thanks and praise are due to all the members of the Society whose time and effort went to make the day a truly tremendous success. Now ... what's on the menu for next year ......!!!?!!!!
