ANNUAL BARBECUE

JULY 15TH




We welcome all members to attend two upcoming events. On Thursday, 29th June, at [3:30 at the Czech embassy (57 Northumberland Road, Dublin 4) ] will be the launch of "Vzdalene tony nadeje" -- "The Distant Music of Hope" by Jan Kavan, the foreign minister of the Czech Republic. A presentation and readings will be given by Desmond Egan Ivana Bozdechova. The book is the first anthology of modern Idrish poetry in a dual language format. A reception will follow.

On Saturday, 15th July, at 3:00 will be the annual barbecue, held again at 10 Wilfield Road, Sandymount, Dublin 4 (Conveniently located near the Sandymount Dart Station). Prices will be low (£3 adults, £2children), food will be high (expect a return of the legendary prasatko na rozni and the unveiling of the historically resurrected "Salade Ruzickas") and the musically inclined will be welcome. Contributions of drink and/or desserts would be appreciated.
 

SOCIETY AGM HELD AT CZECH EMBASSY

The Society held its AGM on May 24th at the Czech Embassy. The Officers for 2000-2001 include: Bill Prasifka, President, Maura Gallagher, Vice-President, Elizabeth McElhinney, Treasurer and Mark Griffin, Secretary. Committee members include Kim Ryder, Mirka Halamova, Mary Clinton, Tomas Kuchta and Pavel Simsa.
Ambassador Mary Cross was elected as an honorary member of the Society.

 

SOCIETY INVITES CZECH FOLKLORE CHOIR TO IRELAND

The Society is promoting the September tour of the Czech folkore choir "[ ]". We will be organising a special Society concert and are accepting bookings for this internationally renown group.
Expert in Czech church music and American spirituals alike, we would welcome suggestions from members as to possible venues for performances.

 

SOCIETY TO RIDE TO .COM REVOLUTION

Yes, it is true. The Society is to recognise the inevitability of the e.commerce revolution. We are exploring a possible website and disseminating information by email. Would all members who are on line please forward email details to your editor at wjp99@clubi.ie.

 

LAST NEWSLETTER IN THE OLD STYLE

You can put this newsletter in the garage, next to the Model T and non-pentium chip pc. With the arrival on the committee of younger members who do not share the technical illiteracy of the over the hill (er, I mean life experienced) members, expect a newsletter in September which begins to incorporate some elements of desk-top publishing techniques.
