Annual Barbecue

ICSS Honorary members clubWe would like to welcome our members, friends and their friends to our famous society's barbecue. It will happen in the Slovak Embassy, 20 Clyde Rd., Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 on Saturday 13th July 2002 from 3 pm . Please spread the news.

Musically talented individuals especially wanted.

There will be a selection of traditional meats cooked by the society's (world) master chef and president Bill Prasifka, salads, Czech beer (Budvar) on tap and great "craic" available.

Please bring some of your best salads and deeserts to the warm up hearts of everyone.

Prices will be low - Euro 5 for members Euro 10 for non members, children are free. Membership will be available at the door.

Annual General Meeting Held at the Slovak Embassy

The Society's AGM took place at the Slovak Embassy in Ballsbridge on Thursday 23rd May 2002. The newly elected committee is:

Dramatic Changes at the Embassies

Milan KyselOur great fisherman, fireman, musician, ... Milan Kysel left the Slovak Embassy at the end of May. He and his family will be greatly missed by us and their leaving will be mourned at this year's barbecue. We wish them well back in Slovakia.


Marcel PeskoSlovak Charges D'Affaires Mr. Marcel Pesko left Dublin in the middle of June. He will be replaced by the first Slovak Embasador to Ireland Mr. Vladimir Halgas.We will be welcoming him at the barbecue.

TMirek Kolatekhe first secretary of the Czech Embassy Mr. Mirek Kolatek will be leaving Dublin in September after being with us for unbelievable foVaclav Zilkaur years.

The Second Secretary of the Czech Embassy Mr. Vaclav Zilka will be leaving for Saudi Arabia despite numerous requests to stay with us.

In the next issue we might run a story about any vacation plans and other exciting experiences from the embassies.

Elections Goes On ...

Following the Irish Election last month with clear victory Fianna Fail, the Czech s voted left wing parties in the general ellection on June 14 - 15. The winner is Socialni Demokracie (Social Democrats) 30.2% folowed by ODS (Civic Demockrats) 24.47%, KSC (Comunists) 18.51% and Koalice KDU-CSL and US-DEU (Claimed to be liberals) 14.27%. Now Social Democrats are in the proces of forming coalition with KDU-CSL and US-DEU. Slovak general election will take place at the end of summer. The expected winner is Meciar's HZDS. However the people have not spoken yet.

Miloco is Coming Back

As a result of last year's major success at the Crypt Theater in Dublin Castle, the amazing theater Miloco will be returning to Dublin in October. As the details are not known yet, please follow our web site: http://www.ic-ss.org. We will be asking you for help with finding accommodation for the 14 member ensemble. Czech Language Courses

Centre of Applied Languages UCD plans to open evening Czech language courses for beginners in the coming academic year (from September). It would help if people interested could contact: language@ic-ss.org or secretary 087 294 7990, so we would know how big the interest is. The course will run for 2 hours a week in Belfield UCD campus.

Czech for Beginners language course will open in Sandford Language Institute in October. The course runs one evening a week for 14 weeks either from 6.30 to 8pm or from 8.15 to 9.45pm. The cost is Euro 250.00. More information at 260 12 96 or website: http://www.sandfordlanguages.ie.
