SLOVAK CHILDREN'S FOLK GROUP TO TOUR IRELAND

IN AUGUST

"Klnka", the internationally reknown Slovak folk group, is to undertake a tour of Ireland in August and all Society members are encouraged to attend at least one of their many performances in Ireland.

The ensemble is made up of over 40 children aged 7 to 16 and shows the folk traditions of Slovakia in dance, music and costume. Klnka is inspired by the national traditions of the Slovak Republic. The group has toured widely and has entertained audiences from central Europe to South Africa to Japan.

For some time now the Society has waited in anticipation of an Irish tour by a Slovak folk group and we find our hopes realised by the Klnka tour. Their visit is not to be missed!

A CORRECTION

An accute attack of senile dementia infected your editor in the last edition of the newsletter when he incorrectly placed the last AGM of the Society at the Czech embassy. Of course, the event was held at the Slovak embassy - a fact painfully apparent to all of you who were there.
It continues to be the policy of the newsletter to print corrections when mistakes occur, whether they be about the location of past Society events or words attributed to diplomatic personnel.

SOCIETY BARBECUE - REMINDER

The annual Society barbecue will be held at 10 Wilfield Road on 15 July at 3 PM.
The event promises to be a memorable one. The Society barbecue has been well seasoned after acquitting itself admirably at functions at both the Slovak embassy and the Czech ambassador's residence. Can it be long before our native compatriots demand that which the Society takes for granted? "Barbecue na rad. BARBECUE NA RAD. BARBECUE NA RAD!"
